Luke Bayley

Luke Bayley has studied astrology for more than 40 years, beginning at the age of 16. Largely self-taught in his early years, he chose to pursue astrology rather than a conventional university path, later undertaking formal studies at the Chiron School of Astrology in Sydney. In 1991, he completed the Practitioners Certificate with the Federation of Australian Astrologers and became a member of the Australian Professional Astrologers Association (APA) as well as taking on a teaching role at the Chiron School of Astrology.

From 1988 to 1996, Luke worked as a consulting astrologer and columnist for Australian publications including Smash Hits, Star and Looks. He was a regular speaker at the Sydney Astrological Research Society (SARS), presented his first international conference lecture on “Harmonics” at the Federation of Australian Astrologers International Conference in Sydney in 1994, and he also served on the FAA's NSW committee.

Today, he is President of the Federation of Australian Astrologers – South Australia (FAASA).

Central to Luke's lifelong work has been one deceptively simple question: how and why does astrology work?

For more than four decades, his research has explored the mechanisms, evidence and practical application of astrology, with particular interests in planetary cycles, timing, probability and the ways astrological knowledge can be tested and applied in everyday life.

Luke's approach also reflects an unusual meeting of the spiritual and analytical. From his earliest childhood, he grew up with an awareness through personal experience, that a spiritual dimension to life existed beyond the purely physical. Rather than seeing spirituality and science as opposing ideas, he has spent much of his life investigating the relationship between energy, consciousness, spirit, science and astrology, and how these different perspectives might contribute to a deeper understanding of astrology and the planetary relationship to our human existence and experiences.

His research has extended into the historical and symbolic relationship between astrology and other divinatory traditions and the relationship between them, such as Tarot, and its shared use of the four elemental principles of Fire, Earth, Air and Water. He views these systems primarily through the lens of their relationship to astrological symbolism and the long history of humanity using symbolic systems to understand timing, experience and meaning, especially where they have been developed in cultures where the written word was not taught or learned.

Luke is now CEO and owner of AstroCollege (formerly the International Academy of Astrology), building upon the educational legacy established by AstroCollege (IAA) founder Ena Stanley. His vision is to combine the depth and discipline of traditional astrological education with modern teaching methods, technology and practical application, making serious astrology accessible to students throughout the world.

Having also spent many years professionally involved in communications, video and mobile technologies, Luke brings that experience to the continuing development of AstroCollege as a modern international astrology school. His focus is not simply on teaching astrological techniques, but on encouraging students to question, investigate, practice and understand astrology, preserving the knowledge of the past while continuing to explore what astrology can become in the future.
